The Acting Road and Transportation Minister of Iran said there are plans to construct 12,000 km railway during current Iranian year started March 21.
The Acting Road and Transportation Minister Ali Nikzad stated at the ceremony of launching Iranian first home-made gasoline locomotive that 33 million tons cargo and 29 million people were transported by railways last Iranian calendar year ( March 21, 2010-March 20, 2011).
The Iranian parliament deprived Transport Minister Hamid Behbahani of his authorities on Feb. 01 because of his inability to perform his duties, specially his failure to carry out construction of railways as much as he promised and because of large number of plane crashes.
