Number of banks issuing and acquiring MasterCard chip cards increased in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani Milli Kart processing center begins to serve another three banks - issuers of international cards.

Azer-Turk Bank, ASB Bank and Expressbank have successfully completed a certification project on emission and ATM acquiring of MChip (chip) MasterCard Int cards of the international payment system, processing center said on Monday.

Expressbank was certified for issuing and acquiring (ATM) VSDC (chip) VISA Inc cards of international payment systems in 2010.

Milli Kart served 12 banks at the end of last year, 8 of which issued VISA cards. It is planned to incraese their number to 11 in 2012. The number of banks issuing MasterCard cards is five; their number will be increased to seven in 2012.

There are three banks issuers of local cards.

The number of active cards served by Milli Kart, amounted to 191,000 in 2011.

Milli Kart was established July 14, 2006 after 18 commercial banks redeemed a processing center of card payments from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan. At present, the minimum participation of banks in the capital center is one percent, and maximal - 10 percent.

The founders of the center are Atabank, Demirbank, AzerTurkbank, Bank of Baku, Azerbaijan Senayye Bankasi, Debutbank, Amrahbank, Xalq Bank, Credo Bank, Access Bank, ParaBank, RabitaBank, Bank Respublika, Bank Standard, Texnika Bank, Turan Bank, UniBank and Zamin Bank and EBRD

Authorized capital amounted to 5 million manat.
