Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC) of Uzbekistan launched the construction of a plant for the production of copper tubes worth $ 18.7 million, the organization reported.
The company is based in the Angren special industrial zone and is designed to produce eight thousand tons of tubes of different diameters every year.
Within the project which is included in the public investment program of this year, there are plans to construct the facility for the production of tubes as well as the laboratory for control over the procedure, the administration building and warehouses.
The project is financed by the equity of the AMMC and with loans from local commercial banks.
According to the report of the AMMC, the supply of technological equipment on a turn-key condition will be conducted by a Chinese company, whereas construction works - by the contractors from the UAE.
The enterprise is to be commissioned in December 2013.
It is assumed that the company will be focused mainly on exports. Of the total production, 7.6 tons of copper tubes will be exported.
Almalyk Mining is one of the largest non-ferrous metal producers in Central Asia and the only copper producer in Uzbekistan. The AMMC accounts for nearly 90 percent of silver and 20 percent of gold production in the country.The composition of the plant consists of two mining companies, two processing plants and two metallurgical plants with its infrastructure.
The resource base of the AMMC is formed by copper-porphyry ores Kalmakyr and Sary Cheku (Tashkent region), lead-zinc-barite ore field Uch-Kulach (Djizak region) and Khandiza mine ores (Kashkadarya region).
The Angren special industrial zone was established in April 2012 by decree of the President of Uzbekistan. It is the second free zone operating in Uzbekistan. Since 2009, the free industrial economic zone Navoi operates in the Navoi region.
