Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC, Almalyk city, Tashkent region of Uzbekistan) has completed the reconstruction of crushing and milling sections of copper processing plant, a representative of the AMMC told Trend Jan.14.
The total cost of the reconstruction project was $117.68 million. The base part of the project on a "turnkey" worth $73.9 million was implemented by the Russian "Tyazhmash" OJSC.
Three ball mills and automated conveyor complex consisting of nine conveyors with a total length of 1.2 kilometers have been installed within the framework of the project.
In the result of the reconstruction, copper ore processing capacity at the processing plant has increased by 7.8 million tons - up to 36.8 million tons per year.
The project was financed through loans from the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, local banks and equity of the AMMC.
The need to increase capacity of the processing plant is associated with the reconstruction of the Kalmakyr mine conducted by the AMMC, as well as the expansion and reconstruction of the career Sary-Cheku mine - the main raw material base of the AMMC.
Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan. It has the right to develop deposits of copper and molybdenum, lead and zinc ores in Almalyk. The company produces refined copper (cathodes), metallic zinc, lead concentrate and other products. It accounts for 90 percent of silver and 20 percent gold production in the country.
The structure of the combine consists of two mining enterprises, two processing plants and two metallurgical plants. Its resource base is formed by Kalmakyr and Sary Cheku copper-porphyry ore fields (Tashkent region), Uch-Kulach lead-zinc-barite ore field (Djizak region).
