The Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NELP), part of Transmashholding, supplied the Uzbekistan Railways with two Yermak 3ES5K electric locomotives with axial thrust control, the press service of the Russian company announced.
The corresponding contract for the supply of three-section electric locomotives to Uzbekistan was signed in mid-2018.
The main advantages of a 3ES5K electric locomotive with axial thrust control are the ability to work in areas with difficult terrain (such as in Uzbekistan), increased capacity of freight trains and, consequently, increased locomotive productivity.
The system of independent excitation of traction engines in the thrust mode, implemented in the speed range of 0-50 kmph, provides resistance to blocking. Such locomotives are widely used in the network of Russian railways, primarily for driving heavy trains in Siberia and the Far East. As of Nov. 21, 2018, NELP produced 897 Yermaks.
Currently, the Uzbekistan Railways also operates the VL60K and VL80S locomotives manufactured at NELP in the 1980s.
In the post-Soviet years, the products of the Novocherkassk enterprise have not been supplied to Uzbekistan. In 2007-2012, Transmashholding built 10 passenger diesel locomotives TEP70BS for Uzbekistan at the Kolomna Plant.
Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant is the largest manufacturer of freight and passenger trunk electric locomotives, industrial electric locomotives and traction units, spare parts for locomotives. It is a member of Transmashholding JSC.
