The roadmap for management of municipal waste, which is aimed at implementation of ‘green economy’ principles, decrease of solid household waste volume sent to the landfills and increase of recycling has been developed in Kazakhstan’s Shymkent city, the akimat (administrative center) of the city told Trend.
As stated by the source in the akimat, there is a complex of measures aimed at the decrease of waste volume which is being implemented in the city.
Thus, there is a city landfill for collection of solid household waste, which receives 500-550 tons of waste a day. Furthermore, some 467 dumpsters are being used in the city, which have 2,079 waste containers installed. Additionally, some 100 special containers for separate waste collecting have been installed by a private entrepreneur and as a result some 230 tons of waste have been collected separately.
«Waste sorting plant, which belongs to Greenline company is also currently operating in the city. Following the launch of the plant the waste recycling in the city equaled 17.6 percent,” the source said.
Furthermore, according to the source, there is a work being implemented in the city, which is aiming at the decrease of electricity consumption.
“Starting from 2019 some 13,688 light sources of the city have been replaces with LED light bulbs,” the source said.
Furthermore design-budget documentation for 39 lighting systems and reconstruction of four systems of street lighting has been developed. According to the project, these objects will be installed with energy sufficient automated instruments.
“The replacement of light sources will create an opportunity for additional energy saving. As a result the energy saving will amount to 60 percent,” the source noted.
As stated by the source, special equipment has been installed at municipal ventures of the city for further decrease of energy consumption.
“The installation of biogas units, geothermal heat pumps, solar plants and small hydropower plants has been carried out in the city,” the source said.
Thus, the installation of biogas units allowed to manufacture up to 400 kWh of electricity, installation of geothermal heat pumps allowed to decrease electricity consumption from 500 kWh to 100 kWh, the installation of solar energy panels allowed to manufacture up to 200 kWh of electricity and small hydropower plants installed at sewerage treatment plants allowed to produce up to 200 kWh of electricity, the source concluded.
