The work is underway in Turkmenistan to sow cotton, Trend reports referring to local Altyn Asyr TV channel.
This issue was raised during a working meeting with the participation of the heads of the regional administration.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to monitor the process of seasonal agricultural work, to ensure high quality preparation of the areas for sowing cotton and other crops.
It was noted at the meeting that cotton production this year must be brought up to 1.2 million tons.
The sowing process traditionally begins at the end of March in Turkmenistan. More than 1.6 million tons of cotton out of the planned 1.5 million tons were harvested in 2019.
Until recently, up to 70 percent of raw cotton was processed domestically. Turkmenistan exports products beginning from cotton fiber and yarn and ending with knitwear. The goods are produced by the biggest complexes in Central Asia located in Ashgabat and in all regions of the country.
