Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 July / Trend / Azerenerji JSC has launched the first power generating unit of the new combined-cycle plant in Sumgayit, which will become the largest and the most up-to-date one in CIS, Azerenerji said. The combined-cycle plant, with the capacity of 517 MW, will be launched at the end of this year.

According to the estimations of Azereneji experts, the annual capacity of new electric power station which is being constructed in Sumgayit, will total to 3.8bln KW/h. The annual fuel demand of this combined-cycle plant will make up 630mln cu m of gas (per hour demand - 100,000 cu m). Some 230 grams of standard coal is required to generate 1KWt/h energy.

The construction of combined-cycle plant costs €257mln. The agreement on financing this project was signed with the German Bayern LB bank, French Societe de General and French BNP Paribas. All three banks granted equal amount of loan for 15 year term with the interest rate of Libor +0.55%. High voltage transmission facilities of 107km are expected to be constructed within the project. A gas pipeline will be constructed as well to pump gas to the electric power station. The constriction of gas pipeline costs €30mln.

Azerenerji has signed a contract with the German Siemens to construct combined-cycle power station in Sumgayit. The contract envisages the full construction of combined-cycle plant with a capacity of 517MWt in Sumgayit electric power station.
