An average of 49.3 million liters of gasoline was consumed per day in Iran during the first week of the current Iranian year (began on March 20, 2020), said Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company Keramat Veys-Karami, Trend reports citing Shana news agency.
According to Karami, the daily gasoline consumption in the country was 68 million liters in the last days of the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).
Karami added that despite the decline in fuel consumption, no gas station has stopped operating.
According to the official, from February 20 through March 6, 2020, an average of 72 million liters of gasoline was consumed per day in Iran. Prior to the increase in gasoline prices in Iran in mid-November 2019, the country consumed 95-96 million liters of gasoline per day. Following the price increase, consumption decreased by 20 million liters to 75 million liters.
On Nov. 15, 2019, the price of gasoline sold on quota increased from 10,000 rials (23 cents) to 15,000 rials (35 cents) and the price of gasoline sold free from the quota increased to 30,000 rials (71 cents) in Iran.
