BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 2. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to present its first report for 2024 within the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership Program (OGMP 2.0) in May 2025, SOCAR's deputy vice president Hikmat Abdullayev told Trend.
“SOCAR joined the international methane standards program OGMP 2.0 in 2024, and in May 2025 it will make public its first report on this program for the first time,” he noted.
The report will include data on work concerning methane emission reductions at more than 1,000 emission sources located at 60 facilities of SOCAR.
“In May 2025 we will present not only the debut report but also an action plan for the next 5 years for each source of methane emissions (for all engines, gas compressor stations, production, transportation, processing facilities, etc.),” Abdullayev said.
To note, the largest methane emissions worldwide are recorded in the oil and gas industry, and following the agreements reached at COP28 in Dubai in December, SOCAR will report on its actions to reduce methane emissions following the latest global standards.
