Kazakh Justice Ministry: Number of prisoners must not exceed 64,000 by 2013

The number of prisoners in Kazakhstan must not exceed 64,000 people by 2013. That is the target set in the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Justice for 2011-2015 which was made public on Saturday.

According to the document, the n umber of people detained in Kazakhstan was about 63,000 people in 2010. The figure is expected to be about 64,000 people in 2011-2013, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.

The Ministry of Justice plans to increase the number of people engaged in any kind of work in detention from 14,185 people in 2010 to 15,385 people by 2013.

The number of detained people who receive medical care must not be less than 45,000 people. Not less than 49,000 detained people must be examined by psychologists.

According to the Ministry's plan, the money envisaged for maintaining of accused and convicted people is foreseen by 2013, from 29.177 billion tenge in 2011 (more than $200.4 mln.) to 31,1 billion tenge in 2013 (more than $213.6 mln).
