ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 6. By March 2024, the oil refineries of Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas (KMG) had achieved record reserves of gasoline and diesel fuel, said Chairman of the Management Board of KMG Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Trend reports, referring to the company.
He made the remarks during a visit to the Shymkent oil refinery, where he got acquainted with the progress of maintenance work at the enterprise.
"Timely scheduled maintenance work, projects to improve operational efficiency, continuous personnel training, and other measures allowed the KazMunayGas' refineries to ensure stability in the domestic fuel market last year. During the period of planned shutdowns, refineries create sufficient reserves of petroleum products. For example, by March of this year, a record reserve of gasoline and diesel fuel was achieved by refineries—about 1.2 million tons, which is equal to one and a half months of the country’s consumption," he said.
As Mirzagaliyev noted, KMG is implementing a program according to which, by 2028, all its plants will stop for scheduled maintenance not every year but once every three years.
Following the visit, the head of KMG gave instructions to complete planned maintenance work within the established time frame.
Meanwhile, the total volume of hydrocarbon processing at KazMunayGas' refineries amounted to 19.6 million tons in 2023. Compared to 2022 (19.9 million tons), this figure decreased by 1.5 percent.
