ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 10. Kazakhstan's Shymkent Oil Refinery processed more than 2.5 million tons of oil over the first half of 2024, Trend reports.

According to KazMunayGas (Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company), as a result of oil refining in the reporting period, over 919,000 tons of gasoline, 755,000 tons of diesel fuel, 143,000 tons of jet fuel, 141,000 tons of liquefied gas, more than 344,000 tons of fuel oil and about 5,100 tons of sulfur were produced.

"Stable and reliable operation of the Shymkent Oil Refinery plays a key role in providing socially significant petroleum products to the domestic fuel market and, in particular, the densely populated southern region," said Chairman of the Board of KMG Askhat Khassenov during a visit to the plant.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan developed a draft of an intergovernmental agreement with China on the expansion of the Shymkent oil refinery’s production capacity to 12 million tons of oil per year.

The agreement envisages the provision of state support measures, including the provision of raw materials, infrastructure, and energy resources; the application of international standards; as well as countering the obligations of potential investors.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to increase the production of motor gasoline by 700,000 tons, jet fuel by 700,000 tons, and diesel fuel by 3.9 million tons.

The sides plan to launch the new facilities in 2030.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan plans to increase oil refining volumes to 27 million tons. Thus, at the Shymkent Oil Refinery, the volume of oil refining will increase from 6 million tons to 12 million tons; at the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant, from 5.5 million tons to 8 million tons; at the Atyrau Refinery, from 700,000 tons to 1 million tons; and at the CaspiBitum, from 1 million tons to 1.5 million tons.
