ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 27. Kazakhstan is ready to supply more than 1 million tons of wheat to Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC 'ProdCorporation' (the national food company of Kazakhstan), Asylkhan Juvashev said, Trend reports.

“Historically, Kazakhstan has shipped more than 1 million tons of grain to Azerbaijan. We are currently working on mechanisms to return the former positions to become competitive again in the Azerbaijani market with Kazakh wheat,” Juvashev said.

According to him, a well-built and successfully functioning system of storage and marketing of grain allows for effective delivery to Azerbaijan.

“In particular, the Baku grain terminal, located in the port of Hovsan, has a production capacity for transshipment of grain of about 600,000 tons per year, and the mill complex is capable of processing up to 50,000 tons of products annually. The terminal operates around the clock and is equipped with an automated process control system, which guarantees high-quality services,” Juvashev said.

To note, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan from January through May 2024 amounted to $234 million, which is 4 percent less than in the same period of 2023 ($243.7 million).

Meanwhile, exports to Azerbaijan dominated the trade turnover with $213.8 million, or 3.2 percent more than from January through May 2023 ($207.2 million).

Furthermore, imports from Azerbaijan fell by 45 percent to $20.1 million over the period. This indicator amounted to $36.5 million from January through May 2023.
