Kyrgyz president, OSCE envoy mull elections

Kyrgyz president Rosa Otunbayeva and the leader of short term OSCE observer mission to the elections Walburga Habsburg Douglas discussed the situation in the country in the run up to the upcoming presidential elections, KyrTAG reported.

The presidential elections in the country are scheduled for Oct. 30.

During the meeting the head of state informed Douglas about the current socio-political and socio-economical situation in Kyrgyzstan and about the preparation to the elections.

Otunbayeva assured Douglas of taking all necessary measures needed to provide fare and transparent elections.

Doulas's visit to Kyrgyzstan was aimed to develop inter-Parliamentary cooperation between the country and OSCE and Europe.

In accordance with the 1997 Co-operation Agreement between the OSCE PA and the OSCE, Habsburg Douglas will deliver the post-election statement on behalf of the OSCE in Kyrgyzstan.

The OSCE PA has organized 111 election observation missions involving more than 3,500 parliamentarians.
