Radioactive coal with radiation background ranging between 7 and 24 micro roentgen per hour supplied to Bishkek Thermal power plant (TPP) from Kazakhstan will be sent back to the producer by special private company, KyrTAG quotes Aman Tentiyev, Elektricheskiye Stancii stock company's general director as saying.
"An ad hoc commission prohibited the Elektricheskiye Stancii to transfer the coal themselves saying that only specialists should be engaged in this process because of the coal's radioactive harmfulness," he added.
Kazakhstan supplied 8,576 tons of coal from Kulan field to Kyrgyzstan, which was later recognized radioactive. The radiation background of the Kulan coal field according to interdepartmental commission is 8-10 times more than the norm.
Kyrgyz Public Prosecutor's Office filed a criminal case in this regard and urged not to transfer the coal from the Bishkek TPP until the investigation is completed.
