DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, January 13. The value of industrial enterprises' production in Tajikistan's Gulistan city, located in the Sughd region, totaled over 4.56 billion somoni ($417 million) in 2023, Trend reports.
According to the city administration's press service, the value of industrial production increased by 293.5 million somoni ($26 million) compared to 2022.
It was noted that the city of Guliston attracted investments amounting to 466.7 million somoni ($42.743 million) in 2023, with direct foreign investments contributing 266 million somoni ($18.372 million) and domestic investments totaling 200.6 million somoni ($24.362 million).
Guliston city, situated in the Sughd region, is home to the largest industrial enterprises in the region.
Tajikistan's industrial production increased by 8.9 percent year-on-year from January through October 2023. During this time, total industrial goods production reached 37.059 billion somoni ($3.4 billion).
The key drivers of this expansion were 5.4 percent increases in extractive sectors, 12.8 percent increases in manufacturing, and 10.4 percent increases in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply.
Tajikistan is now implementing a rapid industrialization strategy for 2022-2026. In January 2022, President Rahmon named this period the 'Years of Industrial Development,' with ambitious intentions to raise industrial output by 2.5 times in five years. The target for 2026 is 95 billion somoni ($9.3 billion), up from 38.8 billion somoni ($3.7 billion) in 2021.
