DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 19. The Green Climate Fund has approved funding of the Community-based Agriculture Support Programme ‘plus’ (CASP+) in Tajikistan, Trend reports.
The funding agreement was signed during the 39th Board meeting of the Green Climate Fund in Incheon, South Korea.
The project aims to promote sustainable development in Tajikistan by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and introducing climate-resilient agricultural practices. The total project cost is $79.690 million, with $39.000 million requested from the Green Climate Fund. This includes a $30.000 million grant and a $9.000 million loan.
The project is expected to directly benefit 650,000 individuals, 51.5 percent of whom are women, and indirectly benefit 2.268 million people.
At the national level, CASP+ will help Tajikistan plan for climate risks, improve policies, and encourage climate-resilient farming practices, while enhancing natural resource management.
At the local level, the project will incorporate climate planning into district, village, and community frameworks.
In the market, CASP+ will strengthen ties with the private sector, support market-driven livelihood diversification, and create alliances in key value chains like livestock, dairy, meat, and horticulture to increase productivity, reduce weather-related losses, and prevent ecosystem degradation.
The project will last seven years and be executed by three main entities:the Government of Tajikistan, through the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Agriculture, the Committee on Environmental Protection, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO).
To note, the Green Climate Fund was established in 2010 by a decision of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to support developing countries in their efforts to address the threats posed by climate change.
