A hands-on seminar was held in Khazar State Reserve for inspectors and researchers on monitoring of waterfowls wintering in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
The seminar was organized by the Nature Protection Ministry and the Working Group on the Ramsar Convention.
The 'Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat' was signed in 1971 in Ramsar city.
Turkmenistan acceded to the Ramsar Convention on July 3, 2009. Turkmenistan has been declared the 159th party to the convention with the nomination and inclusion of the Turkmenbashi Gulf with an area of more than 267,000 hectares. This gulf with its shallow waters and bays became the first Ramsar site in Turkmenistan.
Within the seminar in Turkmenbashi, the field studies were held on the coast of the gulf of the Caspian Sea. During them the first flock of birds - coots, ducks, sea doves, silver and blue and gray seagulls were monitored. The materials obtained in the process of monitoring will be transferred to the common the Caspian Sea monitoring database.
