TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 7. Samarkand International Airport served more than 1 million passengers from January through September 2024, the airport told Trend.
The volume of passengers has increased by 43 percent (308,000 passengers) more year-on-year.
Moreover, the most substantial increase in passenger traffic is observed in foreign flights, especially to destinations such as Moscow, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah, which collectively accommodated almost 780,000 passengers. As to domestic flights, this figure indicated 49,000 passengers in the last nine months.
Samarkand International Airport is actively expanding its route network, offering flights on two domestic and 24 international routes from January through September 2024. Notably, the airport has introduced new destinations, including China's Xi'an, Kazakhstan's Turkestan, Russia's Tyumen, Nizhny Novgorod, and Irkutsk, marking the first time these routes have been available.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan Airports JSC transported 6.3 million passengers from January through June 2024. The passenger traffic at airports skyrocketed by 36 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
