TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, February 14. Uzbekistan has launched the development of the feasibility study for the construction of a dedicated high-speed passenger railway line connecting Tashkent and Samarkand, Trend reports.

The necessary documents were signed during a meeting between Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriyev, Ambassador of Korea to Uzbekistan Won Doyeon, the Head of the Korea Eximbank Representative Office in Tashkent Sangjin Kang, First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways Khikmatulla Rakhmetov, along with representatives from relevant ministries, agencies, and the Korean consortium.

The agreement to develop the feasibility study was reached between a consortium of companies: Saman Engineering, Dong Myeong Engineering Consultants & Architecture Co., Ltd, Korea Railroad Corporation, and Korea National Railway, with funding provided through grants from Korea Eximbank.

In the course of the meeting, the Korean companies presented their plans for the feasibility study.

The Tashkent-Samarkand high-speed railway project, spanning 344 kilometers, connects Uzbekistan's capital with Samarkand. The route is served by the high-speed Afrosiyob trains, reaching speeds of up to 250 km/h. The project involves extensive infrastructure improvements, including the construction of bridges, tunnels, and modernized stations, along with new tracks and upgraded signaling systems.
