BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. A total of 6 controlled access highways with a total length of 145 km are expected to be commissioned in the country by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2025), the deputy director of Iran's Transportation Infrastructure Construction and Development Company Mahmoud Mollazeynal said, Trend reports.
According to him, the government has to cough up 35 trillion rials (around $80.7 million) to get these highways across the finish line. So far, the government has shelled out 23 trillion rials (around $53 million) on building highways.
Mahmoud Mollazeynal added that besides this, the private sector will also invest 35 trillion rials (about $80.7 million) in the construction of highways.
The official stated that the highways will be effective in the country's exports and imports, as well as in rapid transit and shortening time with neighboring countries and European countries.
To note, at present there are 2,793 km of highway, 45,170 km of highway, and major roads up and running in Iran.
