Iran will not to grant extra-safeguard regime access to the International Atomic Energy Agency after implementation of Iranian Parliament's law on withdrawal from the Additional Protocol, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna said, Trend reports via IRNA.
“The IAEA stressed the need to respect the law of the parliament and its implementation, as reflected in the final joint statement between Iran and the Agency,” Gharibabadi told reporters on Monday.
He was explaining the outcome of talks between Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency with Iranian officials.
He added that "Iran and the IAEA have agreed to suspend the implementation of the Additional Protocol.
“From now on, Iran will be only obliged to stick to the safeguard regime as far as IAEA is concerned,” he said.
Accordingly, no extra-safeguard access will be granted to the Agency, said the Iranian official.
He went on to explain the purpose of the continuation of the necessary verification and monitoring mentioned in paragraph 2 of the statement.
“Iran will keep the information of some monitoring activities and equipment for 3 months,” he said. "During this period, the IAEA will not have any access to this information, and if the sanctions are completely lifted within three months, Iran will provide this information to the IAEA. Otherwise the information will be deleted.”
The International Atomic Energy Agency and the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a joint statement on Sunday at the end of the visit of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi to Tehran.
According to this agreement, the necessary monitoring and verification activities of the Agency will continue for up to three months. The agreement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
According to the statement, Iran will also continue to implement the full and unrestricted IAEAs safeguard regime.
