Iran, Turkmenistan seek global reach through new energy cooperation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 9. The potential for expanding energy cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan, with a focus on the delivery of energy resources to global markets, was discussed during a meeting in the capital of Turkmenistan, Trend reports, referring to the Turkmen media.

The meeting took place between Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi, and the Governor of Iran’s Central Bank, Mohammad Reza Farzin.

The discussions centered on the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector and the diversification of energy resource deliveries to the world market.

The parties highlighted the availability of various opportunities to further expand dialogue in the oil and gas sector. They also emphasized the importance of finding new methods and forms of cooperation and engaging in regular exchanges of ideas to practically implement these initiatives.

The meeting also underscored that trade and economic collaboration is a key priority in bilateral relations, with Iran holding a significant place in Turkmenistan’s foreign trade turnover.

Additionally, the leaders noted the successful establishment of multifaceted and effective partnerships between the two countries across various fields, including politics, diplomacy, finance, energy, agriculture, transportation, and cultural-humanitarian exchanges.

Four joint documents were signed during the meeting, formalizing the cooperation.

Notably, Iran’s oil minister, Mohsen Paknejad, announced that Iran is holding talks with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on gas swap agreements on December 5.
