Five magnitude earthquake shakes Peru

An earthquake of 5 magnitude on the Richter scale shook on Tuesday early morning Lima and other localities in the south of Peru without report of victims and damages, Xinhua reported.

The epicenter was in the sea at 50 kilometers of depth, and 72 kilometers southwest to the coast of Ica department, the Geophysics Institute said in a communique.

The earthquake was felt in Lima and the localities of Chincha, Pisco, Ica and Palpa.

This is the eighth earthquake of more than four magnitude that shakes Lima in this month.

On August 2007, an earthquake of 8.1 magnitude killed 596 people, left thousands of homeless and destroyed 70,000 houses in the department of Ica, Huancavelica and Ayacucho.
