Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 June / Trend corr. E.Babayev / There is no precise statistics on drug addiction amongst youths in Azerbaijan. "Most young people, who are drug addicts, do not turn to narcological dispensaries," Azad Rahimov, the Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister, said on 19 June.
If, previously, the drug addiction was observed amongst the age of 25, then it is currently observed amongst the age of 19 and according to non-official statistics amongst the ages of 15 and 16. The statistics and facts demonstrate increase in number of drug addicts amongst youths.
According to the reports, worked out by foreign organizations, the number of drug addicts amongst the Azerbaijani youths is from 20,000 to 80,000 people. The situation with drug addiction in Azerbaijan is normal compared to other countries, Rahimov said.
The government takes steps to prevent expansion of drug addiction amongst youths in the country.
