ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 23. In 2025, the Chinese company CRRC Ziyang will supply Kazakhstan Railways with 62 series of shunting locomotives, Trend reports via Kazakhstan Railways.
According to the press service of Kazakhstan Railways, the first diesel locomotives have already been delivered to Kazakhstan and have received certificates of conformity. Another 38 units will be delivered in the first half of 2026.
The SKD6s locomotives will be operated in the Karaganda and Pavlodar divisions, as well as in the Astana locomotive depot.
Service centers are scheduled to open in Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar and Karaganda depots.
"The purchase is being carried out under a framework agreement for the supply of 100 shunting and 100 mainline diesel locomotives, signed between Kazakhstan Railways and the CRRC corporation. The agreement provides not only for the delivery of modern traction equipment but also for the establishment of engineering and service centers in Kazakhstan to maintain it," the company statement said.
CRRC is the world's largest manufacturer of railway equipment, accounting for about 50 percent of the global locomotive manufacturing market.
Cooperation between Kazakhstan Railways and CRRC has been ongoing for over 20 years. During this time, Kazakhstan has acquired around 300 passenger and mainline locomotives, as well as more than 6,000 freight cars of Chinese manufacture. The delivered equipment has proven to be reliable and efficient under the conditions of Kazakhstan’s railway network.
