Group of companies Akkord will accelerate the construction of a cement plant in 2011, Akkord Spokesman Afag Guliyeva said.
The construction of a new cement plant was launched in 2007 in the Dash Salahli village in the Gazakh region. The plant's capacity is designed for 1.2 million tons of cement per year. The cement plant would open 500-600 jobs.
The company changed the line of business of the Mingachevir Machinery Plant acquired in 2002 to provide the cement plant with necessary equipment, Guliyeva said.
"We were brought all the necessary equipment for the plant from abroad. This caused some problems with transportation. Given this, the company has changed the profile of the Mingachevir Machinery Plant and adapted it for the production of equipment for the cement plant," Guliyev said.
The Mingachevir Machinery Plant is mainly engaged in manufacture and installation of steel structures for construction, concrete barriers and templates for pipe, piers for the carriage of goods of various sizes, valves, pipelines, garbage cans, pipes and columns, and so on.
The annual production capacity of the plant established in 1957 is 7,200 tons. The plant has five major and five auxiliary shops, employing 200 workers and specialists.
Azerbaijan's demand in the cement production now stands at three million tons annually. 1.3 million tons of this volume is provided by the largest cement producer in the country - Garadagh Cement plant, which plans to increase production to 1.7 million tons.
