In January-September 2017, 167.5 million tons of cargo were transported by the Azerbaijani transport sector that is 1.8 percent more than in the same period of 2016, says a report of the State Statistics Committee.
The volume of non-oil goods’ transportation rose by 3.8 percent and totaled 126.9 million tons during the year. Some 81.5 percent out of the total volume accounted for the private sector in January-September 2017.
Some 63.9 percent of the total volume of cargoes was transported via the motor transport, 26.1 percent – via pipelines, 6.3 percent – via railways, 3.6 percent – via maritime transport and 0.1 percent – via air transport.
Meanwhile, 1.44 billion passengers were transported in the period that is 2.2 percent more than in January-September 2016. Major part (88.1 percent) of passengers was transported via motor transport, 11.6 percent – via underground, and the remaining part – via other types of transport.
Moreover, 10.5 million tons of cargo was transported via railways that is 6.7 percent less than in January-September 2016.
During the period, 5.96 million tons of cargo was delivered via maritime transport that is 48.1 percent more than in January-September 2016. Some 49.4 percent of transported cargoes accounted for oil cargoes. The volume of cargoes processed at Azerbaijani ports totaled 7.75 million tons in January-September 2017.
Some 107.2 million tons of cargo was transported via motor transport in the period that is 2.2 percent more than in January-September 2016.
The volume of passenger traffic amounted to 1.27 billion people (up by 1.7 percent) in the period. Some 96.1 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.9 percent – by cars.
During the nine months of 2017, 1.85 million passengers were transported via air transport that is 18.4 percent more than in January-September 2016.
