Power engineering is one of important sectors representing interest both for Romania and Azerbaijan, Romanian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikolai Ureke told Trend .
"Establishment of strategic partnership in this sphere aimed to cover all aspects of this cooperation was suggested during official visit of the President Traian Basescu to Azerbaijan in October 2006. All Presidential visits were directed to discuss energy cooperation, estimation of events and stirring up of cooperation in this sphere," Ureke said.
Concrete measures were also adopted at working level.
"If we get results a little bit slower than we expected, we preserve our optimism and I hope that important projects of cooperation must be implemented on practice," ambassador said.
Romania is also interested in stirring up of cooperation in transport.
"We have projects to increase transit of goods from Caucasus and Central Asia through the Black Sea and the Dunai river to the Western Europe and Azerbaijan can assist to turn Romanian port Konstantza into major gates for all goods to Europe. Support of existing TRACEKA projects and revival of Silk Way are goals representing interest for our countries. Agriculture, food industry, construction and textile are other spheres of possible joint cooperation," Ureke said.
Romania is ready for mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan in both traditional energy relations and other non-oil projects in which Bucharest ready to participate, such as furniture, textile goods, industrial equipment, shipbuilding, etc., ambassador said.
"We know about Azerbaijani intention to more develop non-oil sector as guarantee for a long term and balanced development of the country. We are ready to help in development of this process. Presently, the world crisis does not affect much on our bilateral relations, especially turnover comprising Romanian import of oil from Azerbaijan," ambassador said.
