Romania supports every important project envisaging the supply of oil and gas from the Caspian Sea region to the South-East Europe, Romania's Economy Ministry State Secretary Karoly Borbely told Trend.
"Europe is a significant hydrocarbon consuming market," he said, adding that the previously proposed idea of creating a Caspian Sea - Black Sea energy-bridge is of great importance, since it is related to the region's energy security.
"Undoubtedly, the political will of the countries of the Caspian Sea region and Romania, as well as the calculations are necessary," Borbely said. "We are optimistic in this regard."
He underlined that Kazakhstan and Romania have established very good political relations, which should be strengthened.
The idea of creating an energy bridge between the Caspian Sea region and the Black Sea was proposed by the former owner of Rompetrol group (Romanian oil company) Dinu Patriciu. It was about the regular supply of oil from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan across the Caspian Sea and then to Georgia and the Black Sea.
It was planned to transport oil from there to Romanian port of Constanța. Note, Rompetrol refinery owned by Kazakhstan's KazMunaiGas is located not far from this port.
