BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 10. The Absheron gas and condensate field, located on the Azerbaijani Caspian shelf, has produced 1.5 bcm of gas and approximately 580,000 tons of condensate in its first year of operation under the Early Production Scheme (EPS) phase, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said, Trend reports.

"The plans of developing the Absheron field in stages and increasing the annual production from 1.5 bcm to 6 bcm are significant contributions to the energy security of our country, as well as of our regional and European partners," he wrote on his page on X.

Earlier, in June, TotalEnergies (35 percent) and its partners in the Absheron project—SOCAR (35 percent) and ADNOC (30 percent)—reported that during the full field development stage, additional production from the second phase of Absheron development is expected to peak at 110,000 b/d, including 35,000 b/d of condensate.

Current plans for full-scale development involve significant subsea expansion with three or more additional deepwater wells, alongside onshore facilities for receiving, processing, and exporting gas and liquids.

Since July 2023, through the JOCAP operating company, gas and condensate production from Absheron under EPS has been conducted from a single deepwater well connected by a multi-stage pipeline to a new platform.

The platform is located adjacent to and connected with SOCAR's existing production facilities at "Neftyanye Kamni" (Oil Rocks).

The ABD-001 well, drilled at Absheron as part of the EPS, is the deepest well drilled in the Caspian Sea to date, reaching a depth of 7,411 meters.

TotalEnergies, SOCAR, and ADNOC plan to approve the FEED (Front End Engineering Design) for the full-scale development of the Absheron Caspian gas condensate field this year.

Absheron produced 800 million cubic meters of natural gas and 300,000 tons of condensate in 2023. The gas was used domestically, while the condensate was exported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

The contract area of the field covers 747 square kilometers and is located 100 km from Baku at a depth of 500 meters. Reserves are estimated at 350-400 bcm of gas.

From January through March 2024, JOCAP (Joint Operating Company of Absheron Petroleum B.V.), responsible for extracting hydrocarbons from this field, produced 400 million cubic meters of gas and 140,000 tons of condensate from the Absheron field.
