BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 20. The Austrian Federal Railways (OBB) Holding is ready to collaborate with Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries to address key issues for the effective implementation of the Eurasian Transport Route, Head of the OBB Department for Relations with Eurasian Countries and Freight Transport Enikö Györfi told Trend.
"The success of the transport corridor depends on key factors such as infrastructure availability and condition, cargo turnover and wagon circulation, border crossings, customs processes, and digitalization. OBB has extensive experience in addressing these issues, and we will explore how we can support our colleagues in Asia and Azerbaijan," she said.
Györfi highlighted that during the two-day negotiations in Baku, dedicated to Azerbaijan's initiative to create the International Association "Eurasian Transport Corridor", significant work was done, including discussions on various issues within the countries along the East-West route and its main segment, the Middle Corridor.
"One of the key issues is digitalization. Our holding can assist in finding solutions, including determining which European digital platform could be used in Central Asia for the convenience of clients. We advocate for the safe operation of railways and have valuable experience that could enhance railway communications across Eurasia," the holding official noted.
She also mentioned that OBB is actively working with companies from Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries, including helping to improve personnel qualifications through training programs.
"Austria is interested in the existence and development of a seamless transport corridor with China, the Central Asian countries, the South Caucasus, and Türkiye. The Baku negotiations were held at the highest level, and we agreed to pursue common goals in organizing an efficient cargo supply chain," added the representative of the Austrian Federal Railways.
