BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, June 8. The Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) and Kyrgyzstan have prepared a project for the rehabilitation of the Aral-Suusamyr road, Trend reports.
According to the EFSD, this was announced during a meeting between its delegation and the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan, Beknazar Bazaraliev.
It was noted that Kyrgyzstan is currently working on a request to obtain funding from the EFSD. The preliminary application for the project was approved by the EFSD Council in 2022. The total project funding will be no less than $200 million, with the EFSD providing approximately $160 million.
The project aims to significantly increase the capacity of Kyrgyzstan's road network in the north-south and south-north directions, improve road traffic safety, and ensure the unhindered passage of cargo and passenger transport during the winter, which is currently restricted.
The reconstruction of the Aral-Suusamyr road will connect the main international highways passing through Kyrgyzstan: CAREC-1 (Western Europe-Western China) and CAREC-3 (Siberia-Middle East and South Asia). The road will strengthen transportation links between the northern and southern regions of the country and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Naryn and Talas regions, as well as remote areas of the Chuy region.
