Tajikistan affords numerous railway projects, minister says

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, May 23. Tajikistan has over ten significant development projects in the railway sector, with a total value of $7.454 billion, Trend reports.

According to the country's Ministry of Transport, Tajikistan's Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrohim, highlighted these projects at the XV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum."

He emphasized the strategic importance of the railway sector in Tajikistan, stating that it plays a crucial role in meeting the country's freight and passenger transport needs. Ibrohim noted that 70 percent of the country's import and export goods are transported by rail.

The minister added that the government is focusing on developing economic and transport multimodal corridors that connect Southeast Asia with Central Asia, Russia, Iran, Türkiye, and other European countries, providing access to seaports.

He noted that efforts are underway to effectively utilize the "Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Türkiye" corridor, which offers the shortest route from China through Tajikistan and the aforementioned countries, promoting regional economic integration.

Following the State Program for the Development of Tajikistan's Logistics System for 2023–2028, the minister said Tajikistan will build multiple regional and international logistics complexes. Plans exist for $100.613 million in facility investments.
