DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 23. The number of cattle in Tajikistan has reached 2.7 million head as of September 1, 2024.
According to the data obtained by Trend from the country’s Statistical Agency, the figure rose by 97,700 head, or 3.7 percent, compared to the same period last year.
The count of sheep and goats also rose to 7.06 million, which is a year-on-year increase of 463,100 animals, or 7 percent.
Regionally, the number of cattle grew by 5.7 percent in Khatlon, 3.4 percent in Sughd, in the region under the republican jurisdiction by 1.7 percent, and figures in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region (GBAO) remained stable compared to last year.
During the months under review, meat production from both large and small livestock totaled 148,801 tons, which is a 10.8 percent increase over the previous year. The Sughd region reported 22.3 percent growth in meat production, while Khatlon increased by 9.2 percent, GBAO by 2 percent, and regions under republican jurisdiction by 5.2 percent.
Additionally, total milk production in Tajikistan reached 575,423 tons during this period, up 5.4 percent from last year. GBAO experienced a 2.9 percent rise in milk production, while Khatlon grew by 5.3 percent, Sughd by 7.8 percent, and regions under republican jurisdiction by 2 percent.
