DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 2. A total of 8.4 million bank payment cards were in circulation in Tajikistan, issued by 25 domestic credit financial institutions, as of December 31, 2024, Trend reports.
According to the National Bank of Tajikistan, the figure rose by 25.7 percent compared to the same date in 2023, when there were 6.7 million cards.
Cards from the national payment system Korti Milli accounted for 56.1 percent of all cards in circulation. Express Pay - Korti Milli cards represented 11.7 percent , UnionPay - Korti Milli cards made up 10.1 percent, Visa cards accounted for 13.4 percent, MasterCard cards represented 3.8 percent, local cards comprised 2.9 percent, and Express Pay made up 1.7 percent. UnionPay cards made up 0.3 percent.
In terms of regional distribution, the share of bank payment cards was as follows: the capital city of Dushanbe accounted for 32 percent, Sughd region had 25 percent, Khatlon region also had 25 percent, the Districts of Republican Subordination represented 16 percent, and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region had 2 percent.
A sum of 65 credit financial institutions were operating in Tajikistan as of December 31, 2024, including 15 conventional banks, 1 Islamic bank, 1 non-bank credit organization, 22 microcredit deposit organizations, 3 microcredit organizations and 23 microcredit funds.
