Iran's thermal power plants' production capacity to hike

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. The potential of electricity production in Iran's thermal power plants will increase by 16,000 megawatts in the near future, the executive director of Iran's Thermal Power Production Company (TPPH) Abolfaz Asghari told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, along with the sale of electricity on the energy exchange, it is planned to update TPPH under construction with a 5,000-megawatt capacity, develop new gas blocks with 3,000, facelift old units with 500, and build 2,500-megawatt steam units.

Asghari noted that currently more than 93 percent of the country's electricity consumption is supplied by thermal power plants.

The official added that, in addition, it is planned to build a thermal power plant with a capacity of 12,000 megawatts at the expense of financial resources of the National Development of Iran.

To note, Iran's electricity production potential is 93,455 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 76,257 megawatts, the production potential of hydroelectric power plants is 12,144 megawatts, production potential of retail power plants - 2,485 megawatts, production potential of renewable power plants - 1,300 megawatts, the production potential of Bushehr nuclear power plant - 1,020 megawatts, production potential of diesel units - 408 megawatts.
