TEHRAN, Iran, July. 23
Trend:
The Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran said that all important railway projects in the country will be put into operation by July 29.
Referring to recent power outages in steel and cement factories, Mohammad Eslami said that this issue caused delays in the implementation of the railway project, Trend reports citing ILNA.
He announced that the Khavaran station of the Tabriz-Miyaneh railway will be inaugurated on July 29.
"Opening of Tabriz-Miyaneh railway was one of the promises made by the president to the people of Azerbaijan Province,” Eslami said expressing hope that with the fulfillment of this promise, another big step will be taken for the welfare of the people.
Following the newly created capacity, he says that the distance between Tabriz and Tehran will be reduced by five and a half hours.
Eslami pointed out that Iran's transit line to Europe will create new advantages for the country.
"The completion of this project is on the agenda," he added. "Tabriz is the logistics and industrial hub of the country, therefore, the railway infrastructure of this city will be expanded."
According to IRNA, the executive operation of the Khavaran railway station, as the connection link between the Middle Railway and Tabriz, began in January 1998. Miyaneh-Bostanabad-Tabriz Railway is 203 km long and starts from the existing Miyaneh station and passes through a relatively mountainous route through the cities ofTorkamanchay, Bostanabad, and Basmanj and reaches Khavaran station and finally will be connected to the existing Tabriz railway station.
The shortcut created in the Tabriz-Miyaneh railway project reduces the distance from the Tabriz-Tehran route by about 130 km and reduces the travel time from Tabriz to Tehran by about 4 to 5 hours.
With the launching of the Miyaneh-Bostanabad-Tabriz railway project, Iran's rail transit will be connected to Europe for the first time and its connection to Nakhchivan, Yerevan, Tbilisi via Jolfa and other land and water borders will increase international trade and exports of goods.
So far,1,5 trillion rials ($357 million) have been spent on the project.
