BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16. New highways have been opened in Iran's West Azerbaijan Province with a total cost of 16.5 trillion rials (circa $29 million) today, Trend reports via the country's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

One of them is the 31 km long Khoy-Qotur-Razi highway, and others are 35 km long adjacent highways.

The Khoy-Qotur-Razi highway is considered the closest main road to Türkiye’s eastern cities, and is expected to facilitate transportation to Türkiye's border.

The Western Corridor begins at the Bazargan border checkpoint on Iran’s border with Türkiye and stretches all the way to the southern port of Bandar Imam, covering a total distance of 1,444 km. Within this corridor, 480 km of the highway is located in Iran's West Azerbaijan province. To date, 416 km of it has been opened. The remaining 64 km will be opened in phases, with 31 km opening today, 13 km expected by July, and the remaining 20 km anticipated to be completed next year.
