Georgia, Tbilisi, March 6 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia/
The prime minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili spoke in favor of direct presidential elections. That is the most proper way of electing the president of Georgia, the prime minister told Imedi TV.
While speaking about the candidate from the "Georgian dream" coalition, Ivanishvili noted that there has been some development on the issue but he doesn't want to announce it before discussing the issue with his team.
Direct presidential elections are one of the conditions laid out by the parliamentary minority in negotiations with the parliamentary majority on the constitutional amendments. The president of Georgia touched on the issue on his press-conference urging against change of the manner of presidential elections in the country.
A working group has already submitted a proposal on holding a referendum about the form of presidential elections to the Central Election Commission that proposes the election of the president by the parliament. The group has already started collecting 200 thousand signatures needed for holding the referendum.
