Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 May / corr. Trend E. Babayev / Some five opposition parties of Azerbaijan (Democratic Party, Musavat, Tereggi, For Azerbaijan Forum and National Independence Party of Azerbaijan) have announced that the opposition bloc Azadlig is interested in split in the opposition. "It was proved once again that this bloc is trying so that the Opposition will split," Ali Orujov, the deputy chairman of the National Independence Party of Azerbaijan said to Trend .
"The Five has proposed to hold joint discussions on the Election Code. All-republic meeting will be held in several days for this purpose. Last week the Five once again invited Azadlig bloc (units three opposition parties including Popular Front Party, Citizens and Development and Liberal Party) to take part in the discussions. But the bloc did not accept their invitation.
According to Orujov, the Azadlig bloc is not able to adopt a decision independently. "They adopted such decision under the influence of the outside forces. These forces may be both from abroad and within the country, but I do not want to go into details. We offered out help to them in order to save them from the swamp where they are drowning, but they are refused our help. This bloc is pursuing the policy of isolation," said Orujov. He also added that this move by Azadlig will not hinder the opposition to express their views as the bloc has a very small authority in the public.
Ali Aliyev, the chairman of the Citizens and Development Party of Azerbaijan said to Trend that the statement about Azadlig's being pro-government and its being under the foreign influence are groundless. "If they have evidence, let them to make them public," Aliyev said. He added that Azadlig bloc is going to boycott the elections because of the undemocratic election atmosphere and legislation. "Therefore, we do not see any need to hold discussions with the forces who will participate in the elections," he said.
According to Aliyev, the moves of the parties who are going to participate in the elections seem suspicious. "It seems as if they are participating in the election at somebody's order. If it is not true, let them to give evidence why they are participating in the elections under such undemocratic elections," he said.
