Georgian members of parliament urge Belarus to free itself from Russian pressure and blackmail.

The statement was made by leader of Georgia's parliamentary majority Petre Tsikarishvili when Belarus' parliament announced plans to reconsider recognizing Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states.

The parliament plans to consider recognizing the break-away territories' independence on April 2.

Moscow has urged Minsk to recognize the regions' independence on numerous occasions.

Minsk earlier avoided the issue, but recently announced that it will reconsider the request once the Abkhazian and South Ossetia leaders appeal to them officially.

"Belarus is under Russian pressure and blackmail. If Minsk seeks integration into the international community and Western values, it needs to avoid this move," Tsikarishvili told reporters.
