"The 'Mir' card is accepted at ATMs and retail outlets serviced by VTB Bank (Kazakhstan). Last year, the number of its terminals increased by 1.7 times – from 108 to 183 units. The bank plans further expansion of the card acceptance network, including in the airports of Astana and Almaty," said Dauren Abayev.

He noted that in the first ten months of 2024, transactions worth 50 billion tenge (about $100 million) were carried out in Kazakhstan using the "Mir" cards.

According to the ambassador, the two countries currently have “no systemic problems” regarding cross-border payments and remittances.

The "Mir" payment system is Russia’s national payment system, which provides payment services and issues bank cards. The main business of the system, both in Russia and globally, is the issuance of bank cards, the processing of payments between acquiring banks servicing retail outlets, issuing banks, or credit unions using debit and credit cards for payments.
