ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 2. In the Turkestan
region of Kazakhstan, preparations for the spring sowing campaign
and ensuring water supply for agricultural lands have started,
Trend reports.
This year, the region plans to sow 896,000 hectares of crops –
26,000 hectares more than last year. To ensure uninterrupted
operation of agricultural producers, a subsidized price for diesel
fuel has been set at 254 tenge per liter (approximately $0.51),
which is 13-15 percent lower than the market price.
“I ask for the continuous supply of diesel fuel through regional
operators. It is also important to ensure the timely delivery of
mineral fertilizers and high-quality seeds to local farmers.
Special attention should be given to expanding the use of
water-saving technologies,” said the Akim (Governor) of the region,
Nuralkhan Kusherov.
To improve irrigation efficiency, a major overhaul of 12 water
facilities with a total length of 59 km is planned in the region.
5.4 billion tenge (approximately $10.8 million) has been allocated
for modernization from the Islamic Development Bank.
Farmers in the Akmolinsk, Kostanai, North Kazakhstan, and Zhambyl
regions of Kazakhstan are also preparing for the upcoming sowing
campaign.
