ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 30. Two major wind farms will be constructed in the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan with participation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Trend reports via Kazakhstan’s Mazhilis (the lower house of the Kazakh Parliament).
The Mazhilis has ratified an agreement between the governments
of Kazakhstan and the UAE regarding the implementation of a wind
power plant project.
"The first project includes a wind farm with an energy capacity of
500 MW, an energy storage system using battery energy storage
systems (BESS) with a capacity of 150 MW and storage of 300 MWh, as
well as overhead power transmission lines of up to 125 km in length
with a voltage of 220 kV," the Parliament's statement reads.
The second project envisions a 500 MW wind farm and a BESS with a capacity of 150 MW and storage of 300 MWh. In this case, the BESS will account for 30 percent of the installed capacity for a duration of two hours.
The agreement, signed on December 2, 2023, in Dubai, provides for a fixed tariff to be set for each of the projects for a period of 25 years.
