Turkmenistan commissions infrastructure for national tourist zone

Today, Turkmenistan has commissioned new facilities at the Avaza National Tourist Zone located on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea, the Turkmen embassy in Azerbaijan reported.

The country commissioned the new international airport in Turkmenbashi intended for the reception of seven aircraft at the same time, man-made river length 7 miles, park with entertainment complex, the power station with a capacity of 254 MW and desalination plant with a capacity of 35,000 cubic meters per day, as well as the modern road infrastructure.

The event was attended by Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov, the government members, foreign diplomats and representatives of more than 100 companies from 30 countries worldwide.

Berdimuhammedov signed a decree on the establishment of Avaza National Tourist Zone in July 2007. The total area that was allocated for the construction of the tourist zone is 5,000 hectares, with a long coastline of 26 kilometers. The first dozen luxury hotels that were constructed here were commissioned in early 2009 and opened the doors for foreign and domestic tourists.

Establishment of the Avaza National Tourist Zone is part of the president's socio-economic reforms aimed at further improving the welfare and preservation of health of Turkmenistan.

In 2010-2011, about 23.6 billion will be invested in the construction of social and productive infrastructure in Turkmenistan.
