Kazakhstan begins aerodrome’s reconstruction

Reconstruction of the aerodrome at the military air base of the Kazakh Air Defence Forces has begun in the city of Taldykorgan, according to a report of the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan released on Wednesday.

Repairs will take place on the airfield which includes the runway, taxiways and parking areas of aircraft and helicopters.

Only a few permanent repairs have been made over the last period to the runway which was put into operation in the early 70's. This is the first time full reconstruction of the aerodrome that will resurface the runway and increase its length and width.

In addition, a new water waste and drainage network will be constructed, communication and electricity systems, a concrete fence replaced and other sections of the airfield repaired.
Reconstruction of the airfield will enable the operation of aircraft with a greater take-off weight. New modern lighting equipment will significantly enhance safety in adverse weather conditions and at night.

Following the reconstruction of the Taldykorgan airfield, the Kazakh Air Force will get a modern aerodrome equipped with the latest apparatus which will increase state aviation safety, combat effectiveness of the Air Defence Forces and Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan as a whole. Allocation of state funds to repair the airfield network is an important aspect in enhancing safety.

Reconstruction will not affect the course of combat training at the base. Personnel and all aircraft equipment have been relocated to the Zhetygen aerodrome for the period of repair work where the work of pilots and ground crews will continue as before.
