We intend to ask Kyrgyzstan about its own estimation of situation in Afghanistan," Assistant Foreign Minister of Italy Alfredo Mantica informed the briefing at the Kyrgyz Foreign Policy Department on Friday, April 3. He leads delegation arrived in Kyrgyzstan from the country, reported 24.kg.
Members of the Italian delegation have already held the first part of negotiations with the Kyrgyz diplomats. The sides discussed development of the possible Kyrgyz-Italian cooperation. "We had no time to discus Afghanistan issues yet. But we will speak about it in the nearest future," Alfredo Mantica said.
"It is clear that the situation in Afghanistan can not be solved just by military victory, as political presence and peaceful methods are necessary there," he pointed.
Kyrgyz Assistant Foreign Minister Baktygul Kalambekova said that Kyrgyz-Italian consultations will be continued. The sides plan to consider issues of regional security as in the light of bilateral cooperation so at Kyrgyzstan-European Union level.
"We have got information that Italy is interested in Afghanistan problem and Kyrgyzstan's position on the issue. We plan to discuss the initiative of the Kyrgyz president of making Bishkek a platform for bilateral peacemaking talks," Kalambekova said.
