Foreign companies are actively participating in 22 petrochemical projects worth $15.6 billion in the second development phase of Assaluyeh, the National Petrochemical Company's project manager said here on Saturday.
SHANA quoted Jalil Ebrahimpour as saying that the main financers of the projects are investment companies from Venezuela, Oman, Thailand, and Japan.
He went on to say that 31 million tons will be added to the country's petrochemical production capacity when the projects come on stream.
"Contracts for the Marjan and Pars Kimia methanol production projects have been signed with domestic and foreign companies from the private sector," he added.
The construction of a methanol production facility, with a projected annual capacity of 1.6 million tons, is in the contractor selection phase, he added.
The Mehr Complex is the first petrochemical facility that has been constructed, and it has started trial production with a projected annual output of 300,000 tons of polyethylene, Ebrahimpour said.
Over $7 billion has been invested in the first development phase of Assaluyeh for the establishment of huge facilities such as the Jam, Ariasasol, Pardis, Zagros, and Borzouyeh petrochemical complexes.
